A complex topic.

I still believe the existing station cannot be fixed. I know way too much money has been spent on it and the proposed almost $900,000 cannot be justified for what we ultimately would get. The numbers for a new station are staggering.

What was not addressed was my request to find an existing location to convert to a police station.

So, research and contacts have been made for a feasible 4th option, an existing location that can be converted much more cheaply than any of the three options offered at the workshop.

Currently, two potential locations have been found with the details, contact information and blue prints forwarded to the City Manager for follow-up. While this is in work searches for even more alternative sites have been initiated as well.

While the initial information on the first choice site is very encouraging full research, disclosure and inspection must take place and be certified before any purchase could occur. Guarantees and such are a must on any site we look into.

Be it good or bad more information will be provided as verified.

Here are rough numbers to date:
2001 - $1.8 mil
2004 - $300,000
2007 - $600,000
2008 - $820,000 proposed
2010 - $250,000 new roof

Three current land locations and one 20,000 sq' building are available.

I have serious problems with the Police Dept building and the way it has been handled through the years and the lack of warranty.

Can the city put their own conditions on construction pertaining to the length of time a project is warranted and how much of the repair is to be covered when they let the bids? Such coverage as this

100% year !
90% year 2
80% year 3
70% year 4
60% year 5
50% year 6
40% year 7
30% year 8
20% year 9
10% year 10

I would like to see a different building and one that is not excessive
in design.

On the repairs warranties are for the work specifically done. So, if another issue from another souce arises, as in the site itself being the problem, no luck.

On the other, as in a new building, some of us would insist on getting every guarantee possible.

I hope to get a reasonable deal on the existing building if it proves sound in examination. That way a cheaper price than new and we would know it will endure because of building history. Time will tell since this avenue is in preliminary stages at the moment.

Some suggestions were made on The Citizen on how to handle the Police Station issues.

No, there isn't any room to put anyone else in City Hall. It is already packed and needing more space for what is already there. Not to mention the prisoner receiving area, holding cell, armory or evidence storage room required by the PD.

No, precincts will not work. It has been researched. PTC is the size of a precinct now and none of the Chief candidates wish to move in that direction here.

No, Photocircuits failed due to the environmental. And no, the proposed intent, which came from me, was far more than just the PD. It would have saved us a lot of money over time by including current and future needs IF it had been feasible.

Absolutely agree a new station is costly.

And no, repairing the PD remains not a solution in my eyes.

But, now that other issues are beginning to move forward I researched another alternative, presented it for Agenda and it will be discussed at a Council Meeting, but probably not until March 20 since there are some other issues being ironed out first on other issues related to this whole PD mess. Please see the PD and Recycling thread.
