ARC and GDOT Concerns

With all the push by the ARC, GDOT, State and special interest groups. the following covers their ultimte goals and plans.

Contrary to the claims of some, Fayette will be heavily impacted and we really don't have a say if the wish to push forward. So we must be alert to what is going on. Nor did Plan 2010 cease with the TSPLOST vote.

Currently, the plan is to piecemeal the effort until another big push can be attempted.

What is a Regional Commission and the ARC?

Before discussing issues surrounding the Atlanta Regional Commission, what a Regional Commission (RC) is must be defined.

There is a lot of misunderstanding out there and the ARC, while powerful, would have you believe they are far more powerful than they are, in fact.

ARC Regional Government

The other articles in this Topic Section get into the details of Plan 2010, Plan 2015, Plan 2040 and provide maps of Concept 3, Truck Routes etc. So that material will not be repeated here.

This is about the desire to combine all the cites and counties in the ARC area, as shown in the map below, into one government.

Plan 2010 and Plan 2015

Remember the TSPLOST vote of 2012 on the TSPLOST (Plan 2010)? Dead, right?

Think again, it is very much alive, as is its offspring, Plan 2015.

Plan 2040

Plan 2040 is the foundation for Plan 2010, Plan 2015, Concept 3 and other issues relating to what the ARC is attempting to do.

It is also the spring board of efforts to create a Regional Government.

Following are articles published in the AJC and my response concerning the proposals to fix the congestion aournd th 74/54 intersection.

Plans for 54 and 74

The proposals regarding changes to 54 and 74 are extreme, harmful and a huge impact to Peachtree City. Businesses at The Avenue, Marketplace or Westpark should be very concerned.

It is obvious that Council either does not understand what they are pushing or does not care. None of this originated from GDOT, who does some approvals only because a City wants it and for no other reason. Pond, a long time used by Peachtree City engineering company, obviously was not given instructions to see if they could find a real solution. As I saw while at City Hall, they were told to find some proposal and present it.

Chaos on 54

UPDATED 8-8-2015

For those who have not seen what Council is planning and pursuing on 54 in Wilkesmoor, it is within this article.

When I talked to GDOT about adding ramps to 85 from Fischer Road, they liked it. They said it was a project they would dig into deeper after finishing the 74/85 intersection. That it would pull Coweta commuter traffic to Atlanta out of PTC.

Learnard, Fleisch and Imker would not get behind it. They even tried to say Coweta didn't want it so it would not happen.

Information on MacDuff Parkway

I am seeing some confusion on the MacDuff Extension. There are some who do not understand how it will connect to 74, what is meant by traffic calming devices, etc.

Having had dealings with the development in 2008 and 2009, on Council, after it being annexed by another Council in 2007, I am familiar.

So, here is some material to either clear things up or add to the confusion.

Mass Transit, Another Push

There are those in the ARC who are determined to get Mass Transit, even if the Legislature has to mandate it.

In November 7, 2014 AJC, on page A1 there is an article on a new survey. In the following a closer look is taken to examine claims.

SPLOST and Stormwater

Steve Brown really hates to do tax and fee increases. While that is a good thing, what he will do to avoid them is often not.

Line Creek History - 2008 thru Now

With new people unaware of the history, reinvention by some with an agenda and other factors, a brief history of what has transpired at the Line Creek site is in order.
